Is The Boxer Right For me and my family?
Every dog breed has its own unique features, and Boxer dogs are no different. Before you adopt or purchase a boxer to bring into your family, you should first consider whether it is the right breed for you. The following list of behavior elements is provided to help you with this process:
Are you looking for an aggressive and/or guard dog?
Although some boxer dogs may look fierce, they are not an aggressive breed by nature. That doesn’t mean that a boxer isn’t capable of providing protection to your family; if you invite a boxer dog into your home as member of the family, they will provide protection they sense danger. That being said, there are more effective security systems than boxer dogs – like the electronic ones! Electronic alarm systems are also cheaper as well - so if its protection you are after, get an alarm. If you want a loving addition to your family, get a boxer.
Can you curl 60 pounds?
Boxer dogs, although physically small compared to some other dog breeds, are big animals. They can way up to 60 pounds, which make it difficult for most people to lift them up. This doesn’t mean Boxer Dogs aren’t gentle and friendly; boxers are a very affectionate breed that require constant interaction, and will follow you around all day if permitted. If you are looking for an independent dog, who can spend hours in the yard alone, the boxer may not be right for you. If you want a dog which will want to join in all your family activities, then a boxer may be for you!
Do you have children?
Don’t be turned off by their size – boxer dogs are gentle breeds that are great with children. But like any dog breed, they should be trained appropriately to make sure neither the dog nor child is harmed accidently. Another consideration for any parent is – do you have the free time to care for another little one? Parenthood is already a full time job for many people, and the addition of a pet can cause stress for some people – which is the exact opposite of what it should do!
